Hi there, I noticed a few months ago I had this purple thing appear on my screen. It doesn't appear in screenshots and I can only visibly see it when I am watching something on a dark screen but if I look hard enough it is always there. I noticed today that little ones have started appearing. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can get rid of them. In the photos attached you can see the bigger one but not the smaller one.The photo itself is upside down but the purple thing is located towards the bottom right of the screen. Thanksimage1.jpeg

Hi,

Is the PC still under warranty?

It looks like a panel problem. If you attach the PC to an external monitor/TV the image probably does not show the purple spots.

The solution would be to replace the LCD panel. If you provide the exact model or product number

Model number

I can try to provide you a guide on how this is done. You could also just ignore and see if it gets worse.

Hope it helps,

David

Unfortunately the warranty ran out last year, but if I call HP do you think they'll still take it and have a look?

Thanks for helping me diagnose the problem. Do you think this problem is likely to get worse or escalate anytime soon because I'm okay with ignoring it as long as it doesn't get any worse. In the extreme worse case could this ruin my laptop completely?

 My model number is: 2FN58EA#ABU

Also thanks again for helping, much appreciated.

You're welcome.

I do not really know if it will get worse or not. It will not destroy or ruin the PC.

If you want to have it seen, you should probably take to a local trusted technician which would be a lot cheaper.

Anyway, here is a guide to replace the screen, if you feel up to it or maybe have a technical friend 🤓

The part number for the screen is 934967-001

You can find online by performing a search with part number

Examples:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-14-0-COMPAQ-HP-SPS-934967-001-FHD-IPS-GLOSSY-DISPLAY-SCREEN-PANEL/401...

You do not need to remove the display assembly from the bottom part of the PC to replace the panel. On page 45 (points 1 and 2) you can see how to remove the bezel. Basically, you need to flex the edges outward which will release the plastic "hooks".

Then on page 47-48 (point 5) to replace the panel. There is some sticky tape that keeps the panel in place.

Hope it helps,

David
