HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-aw0003nh
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi All!

After the 2020.09.01 BIOS update 16.A both my thunderbolt 3 HP G2 dock at work and my Razer Core X Chrome at home stopped working. I can not make the HP dock work at all and my Razer at home works on the rear usb-c/charger port for about 10 - 15 minutes then stops and restarts. If I plug it in the side usb-c connector both of the docks are constantly starts and stops.

If I plug in HP usb-c to hdmi convert it works OK in both connectors.

Both of the docks mentioned above works on other notebook.

I tried:

CMOS clear

BIOS repair from recovery

BIOS repair from USB

I can not downgrade, that is not working at all

Windows reinstall, still nothing

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Chris

@Cs0k1 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the thunderbolt Dock and eGPU stopped working after the BIOS update.

Please try updating the computer, this will install the latest updates -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

@Cs0k1

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggets you contact our phone support and check for the support option. They will help you.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

Have a nice day!!

Were you ever able to find a resolution to this issue? I made the very unfortunate mistake of updating to bios version F16 yesterday, and now I am having the exact same issue. No way to downgrade, so I guess we're just stuck...

Hi!

Unfortunately no. I contacted HP support and they did not care that my egpu not working they did only care about my HP dock like its only suppose to work with that. Since the HP dock doesn't work too I am hope they will fix it. There is an advance tab in the bios that are hidden from us, where there is an option: thunder bolt security option (or something like that).

Some say if we could set that to user instead of system everything would work, but than again it is hidden.

So no luck so far.

Regards

Kris

My just got solved as well. The service engineer update my Spectre with new BIOS F.17
Now my Thunderbolt dock G2 works just like before F.16 update.

Hi Wisarut,

Thanks for your feedback...

Got a Spectre x360 13-aw0xxx and I have the exact same symptoms as previously described...

How did you manager to get the F.17 bios ? Which Spectre do you have ?

Even more surprinsingly F.16 (installed directly from HP Support Assistant) seems to have completely disapeared... ??

Any thought ?

Hi MaxKio,

My model is Spectre aw-0219tu (the late 2019 model with 10 gen. Intel CPU).

About the firmware shown in the website, I also noticed that F.16 disappeared about a week ago. They probably noticed that  this firmware cause problem to many Spectre user, so they need to pull it down.

The HP service staff told me that he got the F.17 directly from the company, which he install into my laptop using a flash drive.

That being said, there are still some glitches with the F.17 firmware.

First, in some startup, external monitor get blinked (loss signal? disconnected?) every 1-2 minutes which need to be resolve by restart the laptop.

Second, the light on the G2 dock does not disappear when going into sleep mode.

However, for now it is still better than not being able to use my dock at all.

I would suggest you contact the HP Support to get the latest firmware (despite the glitches). Otherwise,  you can connect your peripheries through a USB-C dongle (one HP provided with the laptop worked for me before I got F.17 firmware).

I hope HP roll out a new firmware soon.
