My HP Pavilion Notebook has been updated for a while but out of the blue my touchpad is acting erratic. I loose control of the mouse pointer and it migrates up and down the screen until it drops to the taskbar and stays there jumping around the taskbar. Then it starts multiple instances of the programs on the taskbar.
What I have tried:
- Tried the HP Troubleshooting and fixes. It scanned by found no issues.
- Check windows update. No New updates were available
- Followed the instructions to delete and download new touchpad drivers from HP. I already had the latest HP touchpad driver from synaptic.
- Booted to safemode and did a full scan for viruses. No viruses found
- I restored the computer to and earlier restorepoint but had the same problem
- I finally plugged in a USB mouse and that disabled the touchpad and the USB mouse works fine.
Is this a common problem with the touchpad drivers? Or is this a hardware issue?
Can anyone provide something else that I can do to address the touchpad not working as it should?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
