More and more often I am having problems with the touch pad on my Envy x360. Updates have fixed the problem in the past but don't seem to help anymore. All updates are currently installed. The cursor will suddenly stop responding to my direction and freeze in one place. Sometimes it seems to suddenly wake up and quickly go all over the screen to catch up to previous directions I had made. The touch screen still works and I'm making due, but I cannot use the touch pad to move the cursor or to scroll the page up and down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your Envy x360’s touchpad is becoming unresponsive or erratic, even after updates. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and possibly fix the issue:
1. Check for Additional Windows & Driver Updates
Even if Windows says everything is up to date, sometimes optional driver updates can help:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates
- Look for any touchpad, input, or chipset updates and install them.
2. Reset the Touchpad Driver
Try disabling and re-enabling the touchpad driver:
- Press Win + X, then select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and Other Pointing Devices.
- Right-click your touchpad driver (could be listed as "HID-compliant touchpad" or "Synaptics/Elan/Precision Touchpad") and select Disable device.
- Wait a few seconds, then right-click it again and select Enable device.
3. Reinstall the Touchpad Driver
If resetting didn’t help, try reinstalling:
- In Device Manager, right-click your touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop – Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
- If Windows doesn’t reinstall it, go to HP’s Support website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest touchpad driver.
4. Adjust Power Settings for the Touchpad
Sometimes power-saving settings can cause lag:
- In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad driver.
- Select Properties > Power Management tab.
- Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
5. Check for External Interference
- If you use an external mouse, unplug it and see if the problem persists.
- If your laptop is plugged into power, try running on battery mode and vice versa.
6. Update the BIOS
An outdated BIOS could cause hardware glitches. To update it:
- Go to HP’s Support website, enter your model number, and check for a BIOS update.
- Follow HP’s instructions carefully to install it.
7. Hard Reset Your Laptop
Sometimes, a hard reset can fix hardware issues:
- Turn off your laptop and disconnect all external devices (USBs, chargers, etc.).
- Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
- Turn it back on and test the touchpad.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
