My left click in the touchpad is not working properly. It stops all of a sudden and restarts  but I don´t know what triggers this. Drivers and updates are ok. No spill, no dust and no damage apparently. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Can someone help, please. While I was writing this message the left click worked and stopped again.

Hi @Spahm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like a frustrating issue. Given that the drivers and updates are up to date and there's no apparent physical damage, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Touchpad Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Ensure that the touchpad is enabled and configured correctly. You might also try adjusting the sensitivity settings.

Update or Roll Back Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager.
  • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
  • Right-click on your touchpad driver and select Update driver. If that doesn’t help, you can also try Roll Back Driver if the option is available.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with touchpad functionality. Try booting your laptop into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it doesn’t, a recently installed application or software may be causing the problem.

Touchpad Diagnostic Tool:

  • Some HP laptops come with a diagnostic tool that you can use to test the touchpad. Check if your laptop has such a tool in HP Support Assistant or HP Hardware Diagnostics.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows is fully updated. Sometimes, updates can resolve hardware issues.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, you could try performing a system restore to a point before the problem began. This can sometimes resolve software-related issues.

External Mouse Test:

  • Connect an external mouse and check if the issue persists with it. This can help determine if the problem is isolated to the touchpad.

Reset BIOS:

  • Sometimes resetting the BIOS to default settings can resolve hardware-related issues. To do this, restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or F10 during boot). Look for an option to restore default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Dear Alden4

I just need to restart in Safe Mode and check BIOS. I´ve checked the driver/Windows updates and everything is ok. Diagnosis tool didn´t detect anything. External Mouse works normally. My mousepad is still not good. Left click button works and stop working without any apparent cause. I´ll proceed with the other points and let you know. Thanks a lot!
