Hi @Vicek146,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop's touchpad is not working properly and the ELAN touchpad driver is missing, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Check for Updates: Ensure that your operating system and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, updating the system can automatically install the necessary drivers.
Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X and select "Device Manager."
- Look for the "Mice and other pointing devices" section and expand it.
- If you see a device with an error or a generic mouse driver, it indicates an issue. Right-click on it and choose "Update driver."
Download Driver from HP Support:
- Visit the official HP support website.
- Enter your laptop's model number.
- Locate the touchpad driver in the drivers section and download and install it.
Windows Update:
- Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update."
- Check for updates and install any available updates.
Reinstall ELAN Touchpad Driver:
- Go to the Device Manager.
- Right-click on the touchpad under "Mice and other pointing devices."
- Select "Uninstall device."
- Restart your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
Windows Troubleshooter:
- Open "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
- Run the "Hardware and Devices" troubleshooter.
System Restore:
- If the issue occurred recently, you can use System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the touchpad was working correctly.
Manual Driver Installation:
- If the above steps don't work, you can manually install the ELAN touchpad driver.
- Download the latest driver from the official ELAN website.
- Go to Device Manager, right-click on the touchpad, choose "Update driver," and select "Browse my computer for drivers." Point to the folder where you downloaded the driver.
BIOS Update:
- Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.
Always make sure to create a backup before making significant changes to your system, such as driver installations or updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
