For the past couple months, the track pad on my HP Spectre x360 laptop has been glitchy. The cursor is slow to respond, lags, jumps from place to place on the screen, and is difficult to control. At times, turning the computer off and back on again has resolved the issue, but in the past week, the problem has been more consistent.

I have tried updating/reinstalling the Synaptics Touchpad Filter Driver and a hard reset of my computer. I have installed all the software updates that are recommended. I'm not sure what else to do and it is very frustrating!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi @env3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing persistent issues with the touchpad on your HP Spectre x360. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Check Touchpad Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse.

  • Verify and adjust the touchpad settings. Ensure sensitivity and gesture options are set correctly to suit your preferences.

Update Touchpad Driver:

  • Visit the Official HP® Support to ensure you have the latest touchpad driver specific to your Spectre x360 model.

  • Sometimes manufacturers release updates that address issues with hardware performance.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect any external devices and remove any docking stations.
  • Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery if possible.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reinsert the battery, plug in the AC adapter, and turn on the computer. Test the touchpad.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Sometimes touchpad issues can be related to BIOS settings. Restart your computer and enter BIOS setup by pressing F10 during startup.

  • Make sure touchpad settings are enabled and correctly configured.

Disable External Mouse Devices:

  • If an external mouse is connected, try disconnecting it and see if the touchpad behavior changes.

Clean the Touchpad:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the touchpad's surface. Sometimes, grease or dirt can impair touchpad performance.

Use HP Support Assistant:

Test in Safe Mode:

  • Boot the laptop in Safe Mode to see if the problem persists. Safe Mode can help identify whether a software conflict is causing the touchpad issues.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
