Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing an issue with the touchpad on my HP Spectre running Windows 11. After just a few seconds of not using the touchpad, if I try to click without moving the pointer first, the first click is ignored. It feels like the touchpad has gone idle or into a low-power state, and I have to either move the cursor or click twice before the system responds.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Checked Device Manager for power management options — unfortunately, there is no Power Management tab under the touchpad device.
Updated all drivers using HP Support Assistant
It's quite disruptive, especially when working quickly, as I often miss the first click.
Is this a known issue with HP Spectre models or Windows Precision Touchpad drivers?
Are there any firmware updates, driver patches, or advanced settings that might help?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

@Jasper76, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Turn Off USB Power Saving
Go to Control Panel > Power Options
Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings
Find USB settings > USB selective suspend setting
Set both On battery and Plugged in to Disabled
Click OK and restart
Make Sure Tap Settings Are Right
Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad
Make sure “Tap with a single finger to single-click” is ON
Set Touchpad sensitivity to Most sensitive
Update or Roll Back the Touchpad Driver
Open Device Manager
Find HID-compliant touchpad under Human Interface Devices
Right-click > Properties > Driver tab
Try Update Driver or click Roll Back Driver if it’s available
Run HP Hardware Test
Turn off your laptop
Turn it back on and press Esc, then F2
Run the Touchpad/Mouse Test under Component Tests
I hope this helps.
