Hi @Mrhaley

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

A Code 10 error in Device Manager usually means the device cannot start due to driver issues or hardware conflicts. Let's troubleshoot step by step:

1. Restart Your Laptop

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.

2. Check Device Manager

  • Press Win + X → Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click your touchpad → PropertiesGeneral tab.
  • If it shows Code 10, proceed with the next steps.

3. Update or Reinstall the Touchpad Driver

  • Right-click the touchpad in Device ManagerUpdate driverSearch automatically.
  • If that doesn’t work, visit HP’s official driver page and download the latest touchpad driver for your model.
  • If updating doesn’t help, try Uninstall device → Restart your laptop → Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

4. Check Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings (Win + I) → Windows UpdateCheck for updates.
  • Install any pending updates, especially related to drivers.

5. Run HP Diagnostics

HP provides built-in diagnostic tools. You can check for touchpad issues using HP’s support page.

6. Perform a System Restore (if recent issue)

If the touchpad was working fine before, try restoring Windows to an earlier point:

  • Search System Restore in Windows.
  • Select a restore point before the issue started.

If none of these steps work, let me know what happens at each stage, and I’ll help troubleshoot further!
