Touchpad does not work after windows 11 update-I2C HID device failed.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you. 
If your HP laptop's touchpad stopped working after a Windows 11 update and the I2C HID device has failed, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Check if the Touchpad is Enabled

  • Press Win + I to open Settings.
  • Navigate to Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  • Ensure the touchpad is enabled.

Update or Reinstall I2C HID Drivers

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Locate I2C HID Device (it might have a yellow warning triangle).
  • Update Driver:
    • Right-click I2C HID Device > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • If that doesn't work, try reinstalling:
    • Right-click I2C HID Device > Uninstall device > Restart your laptop.
    • Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Roll Back the Driver

  • If the issue started after a Windows update:
    • Right-click I2C HID Device in Device Manager.
    • Select Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver (if available).
    • Restart your laptop.

Enable I2C in BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del at startup).
  • Look for Advanced settings and ensure I2C is enabled.
  • Save and exit.

Perform a Power Drain

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Plug everything back and restart.

Manually Install HP Synaptics/ELAN Touchpad Driver

  • Go to HP’s official website and download the latest touchpad driver for your model.
  • Install it and restart.

Use System Restore

  • If the problem started after an update, you can restore Windows to a point before the issue:
    • Win + R > type rstrui > Select a restore point before the update.

Reset Windows (Last Resort)

If nothing works, consider Resetting Windows (keeping files):

  • Settings > System > Recovery > Reset this PC.
