Spectre x360 15t 2019
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just ordered this computer from HP. Before purchasing I asked online if it would have Microsoft precision drivers and was told yes. However, what I read online says only the Envy series was switched to precision. Anyone know for certain??

Hey there! @JeffM46,

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Microsoft precision drivers are available only on certain models of HP laptop. To check if the laptop supports the precision drivers try the steps recommended below.

You can check if your Windows 10 PC already has the Precision Touchpad drivers installed by navigating to Settings > Devices > Touchpad. If you see the “Your PC has a precision touchpad” text, you’re already using a PC with a Precision Touchpad. That means you already have the drivers, so you don’t have to do anything. Even if your touchpad doesn’t feel great, that’s a problem with the hardware—not the drivers.

If you have touchpad issues try updating the BIOS and touchpad drivers on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps try the steps recommended below.

  • On Start , search for Device Manager, and select it from the list of results. Under Mice and other pointing devices, select your touchpad, open it, select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, look for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

  • If those steps didn't work, try uninstalling your touchpad driver: open Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) the touchpad driver, and select Uninstall. Restart your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

  • If that didn't work, try using the generic driver that comes with Windows. Here's how: in Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) your touchpad driver > Update driver software... Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, select HID compliant mouse, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it.

Your answer not did not address my question. I haven't received the computer from the HP store yet, so I can't go into settings and have Windows verify if the trackpad is a precision device. That said, HP knows what they are building and selling and whether the  current Spectre x360 15t is using precision drivers or the much clunkier Synaptics drivers, and that is my question!

I was told it would have Precision drivers, and I have a record of that chat.  Was I given accurate information before purchasing?

Hi! @JeffM46,

Without you sharing the product details, I won't be able to give you accurate details.

Also, as we have different series in spectre which does not go with the precision drivers. So we need the product details to assist you better.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Take Care!

@JeffM46,

Thanks for writing back to us.

I don't think you have shared the complete product details.

However, I have checked the records and found that the touchpad does not support Microsoft precision drivers.

So you cannot use Microsoft precision drivers on the PC.

Refer the product specifications page for more information. Click Here

Hope this answers your query!

Take Care!

Yes, this is an answer, but unfortunately it verifies that I was given incorrect information before I placed my order. If there's any doubt about that comment, I'd be happy to post the chat. Beyond that I'm not sure what your comment that I hadn't shared all the order details is supposed to mean. I already gave the model number ... df000CTO - Spectre x360 15t. What more can I provide?

I don't think we had to go around on this issue through several posts. From what I've now found, it appears that no Spectre models are being built with precision touchpads. If that's not correct, I'd like to know.

HP's touchpads have been a consistant complaint in technical reviews, and that's why I inquired before buying. I have read that the Envy line is finally getting the much superior precision pads, yet HP's flagship is left wanting.

I'm due to receive my new Spectre in a week. Although I do product reviews for a major retailer, I bought this computer directly from HP because i wanted the best and most current technology. I'll give it an honest and thorough evaluation and decide whether I'll keep or return it.
