I have a very time consuming issue with touchpad after a windows update. I have tried. It doesnt work
1. Hard reset
2. Update 12C HID driver
3. Uninstall 12C HID device
4. Install updated driver package
5. When I troubleshoot with HP EUFI touchpad works, which I would thionk indicates not an hardware issue.
So far doing the same thing for 5 hours with no gain,
PLEASE help

@barnzee, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your touchpad stops working, especially after a Windows update. You've already done a great job troubleshooting! Since the touchpad works in HP UEFI diagnostics, we can safely rule out a hardware issue.
Let’s try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Enable Touchpad in BIOS
Sometimes, the touchpad may be disabled at the BIOS level.
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
- Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
- Ensure Touchpad is set to Enabled.
- Press F10 to save and exit.
Reinstall the I2C HID and Touchpad Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click on I2C HID Device and choose Uninstall device. If there are multiple, uninstall all.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices and uninstall any touchpad-related drivers.
- Restart your PC.
Windows should attempt to reinstall the drivers automatically. If not, proceed to the next step.
Install the Latest Drivers from HP
- Visit the official HP Support page for your model.
- Download and install:
- Synaptics/ELAN Touchpad Driver (if available)
- Chipset Drivers
- HP System Event Utility
- Restart your PC after installation.
Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows
- Download and install HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows.
- Run the Component Tests > Input Devices > Touchpad Test to confirm functionality.
Check Windows Settings
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
- If the option is missing, it indicates the driver is not properly installed.
Optional: Roll Back or Pause Windows Updates
If the issue started after a specific update:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History.
- Click Uninstall updates and remove the most recent one related to drivers or system.
- Pause updates temporarily to prevent recurrence.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
