For over a year now, my touchpad has stopped working, which has made it difficult to use my laptop without relying on an external mouse. While the mouse does provide a temporary solution, it's inconvenient, especially when I need to work on the go. I’ve tried every troubleshooting step I could find, from updating drivers and adjusting settings to reinstalling software and even checking the hardware connections, but nothing has restored the touchpad's functionality. I would really appreciate any assistance or repair options that could help me get my touchpad working again, as it’s an essential part of using my computer effectively.

Hi @JeremyR1
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with touchpad, I'm sorry to hear you're still facing issues with your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 touchpad! Since you've already tried many troubleshooting steps and are relying on an external mouse, let's go over some additional steps that could help you fix the issue.
1. Check if the Touchpad is Disabled via Function Key
- Press the "Fn" key + the function key with a touchpad icon (usually F6, F7, or F9, depending on the model) to toggle the touchpad on and off. Make sure it's enabled.
2. Check in Device Manager for Touchpad Issues
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Look for Mice and other pointing devices. You should see something like "Synaptics" or "Windows Precision" under this category. If you don't, your laptop might not be recognizing the touchpad.
- Right-click on the touchpad entry and click Uninstall device.
- Reboot your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the touchpad driver.
If there's a yellow triangle or warning sign next to the touchpad driver, there may be an issue with the driver or hardware.
3. Check for Touchpad in Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Make sure the toggle switch is set to On.
- Under "Related Settings," click on Additional mouse options and ensure everything is configured properly there.
4. Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers
- Go to HP’s Support Page and enter your laptop model (HP Pavilion 15-eg2000) to download the latest touchpad drivers specifically for your model.
- You can also visit the manufacturer's website for your touchpad (Synaptics, ELAN, or Windows Precision) and download the driver directly from there.
- After installing the new driver, reboot the laptop.
If your touchpad driver is already up-to-date but the issue persists, try rolling back the driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click your touchpad driver under Mice and other pointing devices and select Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
5. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings
- Restart your laptop and press F10 (or another key depending on your model) to enter the BIOS settings.
- Look for an option related to the touchpad under the Advanced or System Configuration tab (e.g., "Internal Pointing Device," "Touchpad," or "Trackpad").
- Ensure that it is enabled. If it’s already enabled, try disabling it, saving changes, then re-enabling it, and rebooting.
6. Reset Windows (Last Resort)
- Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
- Under Reset this PC, click Get Started and choose Keep my files.
- This will reinstall Windows without deleting your files but will remove installed apps and settings.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
-Regards
