Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

Since my laptop got updated to Win11 24H2, touchpad keeps unabling so I have to reinstall it repeatedly (it works just fine after that)

Is there a way to address this?

Regards

@Sfvelasco, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with the touchpad disabling itself after the Windows 11 24H2 update is likely due to driver incompatibility or Windows Update overriding the touchpad driver. Here's how you can resolve it:

Update Drivers via HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant can automatically detect and install the latest compatible drivers:

  • Download and install it from: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
  • Open the app → Go to My devices → Select your laptop → Click Updates.
  • Install any available Touchpad, Chipset, or BIOS updates.

Manually Install the Latest Touchpad Driver

  • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
  • Enter your product
  • Select Windows 11 (64-bit) as the OS.
  • Download and install the latest Synaptics or ELAN Touchpad Driver under the Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices section.

Prevent Windows from Reinstalling Problematic Drivers

Sometimes Windows Update reinstalls a generic driver that causes issues. You can block this:

  • Download the Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter from Microsoft: wushowhide.diagcab
  • Run it and hide the touchpad driver update after installing the correct one manually.

Roll Back Driver (if issue persists)

  • Press Win + X → Device Manager
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices
  • Right-click your touchpad (e.g., Synaptics/ELAN) → PropertiesDriver tab → Click Roll Back Driver (if available)

BIOS Update (Optional but Recommended)

  • From the same HP Drivers page, check if a BIOS update is available.
  • Follow on-screen instructions carefully to update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
