I have been having issues with my touchpad not responding (not moving when I touch/scroll) and sticking where it continously clicks. However, my touch screen works absolutely fine. I'm not sure if there's some kind of incongruency between software and hardware or what, but would love some help!

Thanks!

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Echo_Lake is at your service.

As I understand, the touchpad is not working,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
  • Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?
  • When was the last time it worked without these issues?
  • Were there any hardware/software changes made?
  • Does this happen when you connect an external mouse?

Let's try these steps:

Run Touchpad test:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

  5. Mouse/Touchpad Tests - This consists of two tests, the Pointer Test and the Drag and Drop Test.

To run the tests, click Mouse/Touchpad. Select the test you want to run, and then click Run once. Follow the instructions to complete the test.

If the test passes, continue with these steps:

Perform a hard reset by following the steps in the HP document Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset. A hard reset clears the driver instructions. Your computer rereads all instructions from the drivers and software stored in the Operating System which can solve some problems.

Uninstall Touchpad drivers

  1. Click Start, type device into the search field, and then select Device Manager from the list.
  2. Expand the  "Mice and other pointing devices".
  3. Right-click the touchpad driver, select Uninstall from the drop-down menu, and then click OK to confirm that you want to uninstall the driver.
  4. Restart your notebook.

Keep me posted,

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!
