HP Spectre 15-eb1 x360 Convertible Laptop PC IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a 2021 hp spectre x360 convertible model 15t-eb100.  about 2 weeks ago, the touch pad gradually stopped working after windows login.  At first, it stopped working only after going to sleep, but worked again if you logged out and logged back in.  Now it does not work at all it after windows starts up.  It does work in the component test prior to starting windows. how to fix?

Hi @Buckthorn197

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when the touchpad stops responding right after Windows login, especially since you’ve already noticed it works fine in the hardware component test.

Thank you for checking that—it confirms the touchpad itself is functional, and the issue lies within Windows settings or drivers.

Let’s go through a structured set of steps to bring it back:

Check Touchpad Enable Settings

  • Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Devices > Touchpad.
  • Ensure the touchpad toggle is turned on.
  • Adjust sensitivity settings and test if the pointer responds.

Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand “Mice and other pointing devices.”
  • Right-click the touchpad driver (often listed as Synaptics, ELAN, or HID-compliant touchpad).
  • Choose “Update driver” > “Search automatically for drivers.”
  • If no update is found, select “Uninstall device,” restart your PC, and Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows desktop.
  • Select your HP Spectre x360, then go to “Printer & PC Settings.”
  • Choose “Diagnose & Fix” and let the tool scan for driver or system conflicts.

Check Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Install any pending updates, especially those related to drivers or system stability.
  • Restart your PC after updates are complete.

BIOS Update

  • Sometimes touchpad issues are resolved with a BIOS update.
  • Visit HP’s support page for your Spectre x360 model: HP Spectre x360 BIOS and Drivers
  • Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.

Test After Restart

  • Restart your PC and test the touchpad immediately after login.
  • If it responds, the issue is resolved. If not, repeat the driver reinstall step.

By following these steps, you should feel the smooth glide of the touchpad returning under your fingertips, letting the cursor move freely across the screen again.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
