My touchpad is not working and my cursor doesn’t show up. I went to device manager and the I2C had a caution sign beside it. I disabled and enabled it did not work. I uninstalled and restarted my computer to reinstall it and that did not work either. What else can I do to fix this?

Hi @Yam131

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your touchpad issue with the I2C HID Device can often be resolved by performing a hard reset, running HP’s built‑in diagnostics, and ensuring the latest drivers and Windows updates are installed.

These steps should restore cursor functionality.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Shut down the computer completely.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to clear temporary memory.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and power on the computer.
  • This forces Windows to rescan hardware and can reinitialize the touchpad.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  • Power off the computer.
  • Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 when the menu appears.
  • Select Component Tests > Mouse/Touchpad.
  • Run the test and follow on‑screen instructions.
  • If the test fails, it confirms a hardware or driver issue.

Update Drivers via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your device.
  • Use Diagnose & Fix to automatically check and repair driver issues.
  • Ensure the latest touchpad/I2C HID driver is installed from HP’s official driver page.
  • If updates are available, install them and restart the computer.

Check Windows Updates

  • In Windows, search for Check for updates.
  • Install all critical and optional updates, especially those related to input devices.
  • Restart after updates are applied.

Enable Touchpad in Settings

  • Go to Windows Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Confirm the touchpad is enabled.
  • Adjust sensitivity or gestures if needed.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
