This happens at random and it causes the cursor movement to become lagged and jumpy on the vertical axis. The problem persists for a while before randomly going away. The laptop is pretty much brand new.

To be able to answer you effectively, we need some information.
Have you made any changes to the software or to the OS?
Was there any kind of errors or physical damage that happened?
Have you updated and drivers recently?
Meanwhile, update the Bios and select the current OS before updating Click here.
