HP Notebook 15-dy1051wm

Touchpad was not working properly, went into settings and turn the touchpad off. I do not have a mouse in order to turn it on again. Is there a different way I can do that

Hi @Elsa21,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Yes, if your touchpad on the HP Notebook 15 is not working properly and you've turned it off in settings without an external mouse, you may try the following steps.

Shortcut Key: Many laptops, including HP notebooks, have a shortcut key combination to enable or disable the touchpad. Look for a function key (F-key) that has an icon resembling a touchpad or mouse. It is often one of the F1 to F12 keys and may require you to press the "Fn" (Function) key simultaneously. Pressing this key combination should toggle the touchpad on or off.

Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve hardware and software issues. Restart your laptop, and see if the touchpad starts working again.

Windows Settings: If you have access to the Start menu using the keyboard, you can navigate to the Windows Settings:

  • Press the Windows key.
  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to "Settings" and press Enter.
  • Navigate to "Devices" and then "Touchpad."
  • Use the Tab key to select and activate the touchpad settings.
  • Use arrow keys to navigate to the option to enable the touchpad and press Enter.

External Mouse: If you can borrow an external mouse temporarily, you can connect it to your laptop, and then use it to navigate to the touchpad settings in Windows. Once there, you can enable the touchpad again.

System Restore: If the above steps do not work, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the touchpad was working. Keep in mind that this will undo any changes made to the system since the restore point.

  • Press Windows + S to open the search bar.
  • Type "Create a restore point" and press Enter.
  • In the System Properties window, click on the "System Restore" button.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a previous state.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
