HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I would like to turn off my LED lights on my laptop, more specifically the power button LED. I tend to watch shows on my laptop late at night and the LED is really bright. I tried taping it over but the power button LED is so powerful it also lights up the escape key below it. So is there anyway to either turn the power of the power button LED down or completely turn it off?

Hi @Jackman9061,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your  HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx and you want to turn off the LED lights.

There is no way to turn off the power led as it's system designed.

I hope it helps.

Cheers.

I guess I could just open up the computer and take out the LED lights internally. I don't really care about the warranty anyway.

Hi! @Jackman9061, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

I understand your concern but there is no way you can disable the led's on your laptop.

However, you can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

Step 1
Open the Microsoft Windows Control Panel on your HP laptop computer. The Control Panel button is accessible by clicking once on the "Windows Logo" button on your HP laptop computer desktop.

Step 2
Click "Power Options."

Step 3
Click "Change Plan Settings." You will see six drop-down menus on screen—three beneath the term "On Battery" and three beneath the term "Plugged In." Click each of the drop-down menus and select the "Never" option.

Step 4
Click "Apply" to disable the LED indicators on your HP laptop computer.

Only 4 things pop up (two on each side) to select which is Turn off Display and When the computer sleeps. I already had these at Never, but you still didn't answer my question. Which is, if I open the computer, can't I just disconnect the LED lights from the inside?

@Jackman9061, Thanks for your quick response and time.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Yes, you can do it however doing this will void the warranty and HP will not be responsible if you end up with a hardware issue.

Also, since we don't have user manuals on how to removing or replacing the parts on your PC.

However, You can take it an HP authorized service provider and the led kit disabled from your PC.

1. Turn off your laptop and unplug the power adapter. Disconnect all drives and devices.

2. Put on an anti-static wrist strap to protect the hardware circuits from accidental electrostatic discharge.

3. Turn the laptop over and slide the latch or latches to eject the battery. Pull the battery out of the laptop.

4. Loosen and remove all screws from the bottom of the laptop. Lift up the service panels and set them aside.

5. Turn the HP upright and open the lid. Push back the screen and lift up the switch cover.

6. Disconnect the cable connecting the switch cover to the motherboard. Release the zero-insertion-force connector securing the LED board to the motherboard.

7. Disconnect the LED cable from the laptop to disable the indicator lights. Return the switch cover to its original position.

8. Close the laptop, then turn it over and reinstall all screws. Reinsert the battery into its compartment.

Do you know exactly what laptop I have? Because the battery is internal, which means I have to open it up to access the inside.

@Jackman9061, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As I mentioned in my previous thread since I don't have the service manuals for your PC So I just gave a generic step to disable the led lights.

Also, as I suggest in my previous thread, please contact HP support and get the service options.

Or contact any HP authorized service provider and the led kit disabled from your PC.
