Hi @LightnLove,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To enable the backlit keyboard on your HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC, you can try the following steps.

Check Keyboard Shortcut: Usually, the backlight can be toggled using the Fn key combined with a function key (often F5, F3, or a key with a backlight symbol). Make sure you're pressing Fn + the correct key. If your laptop has a dedicated backlight key, use that instead.

HP Software: Make sure you have the HP Command Center or HP Support Assistant installed. Sometimes, these applications allow you to adjust keyboard settings, including the backlight.

BIOS Settings: You can check the BIOS settings to see if the keyboard backlight is enabled:

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
  • Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Look for an option related to the keyboard backlight and make sure it's enabled.

Driver Updates: Ensure that your keyboard drivers are up to date:

  • Go to Device Manager (right-click on the Start button and select it).
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your keyboard, and select "Update driver."

Power Settings: Sometimes power settings can affect the keyboard backlight:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
  • Select your power plan and click on "Change plan settings," then "Change advanced power settings." Look for keyboard backlight settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
