I have an HP Fury running Windows 11 Pro, and I’m currently experiencing an issue with the USB-C port.

I use a plug-and-play USB-C hub to connect a keyboard, mouse, and an external monitor. Before performing a clean Windows installation, everything worked perfectly, including video output via USB-C. However, since reinstalling Windows and updating all drivers from HP’s official website, video output through USB-C no longer works, although the keyboard and mouse still function properly through the same hub.

I updated all the drivers from HP image assistant.

I updated all the drivers from HP image assistant. Here's what I found:
When I plug in the hub with the screen connected, the PC freezes as soon as it's connected if the NVIDIA card is enabled.
If I disable the NVIDIA card (RTX A3000 12GB Laptop GPU), the PC does not freeze, but the screen is not detected.
I also tested with another screen: same behavior.
The same hub + screen works on another PC, so the hardware is not to blame.
Peripherals connected to the hub via USB-C work (keyboard, mouse).

I have the impression that this is due to an update of the USB-C port, have you had a similar case? Can you help me?

I forgot to tell you that I tried the hardware reset solution, it works but once the PC goes into standby or shuts down, I have the USB-C port with hdmi again which no longer works.

Hi @Picdedante404

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand how it feels, since the USB-C display was working perfectly before the clean Windows installation. Based on the information you've shared, the USB-C port is still functioning for USB devices, but the DisplayPort video output is not. Since the issue started only after reinstalling Windows, it is likely related to a driver, BIOS, Thunderbolt, or graphics configuration. I would request you to please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Update the BIOS

  • Restart the computer and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
  • Note the BIOS version.
  • Install the latest BIOS available for your HP Fury using HP Image Assistant or HP Support Assistant.
  • Restart the computer after the update.

Step 2: Verify Thunderbolt/USB-C Drivers

  • Open Device Manager and expand:
  • System Devices
  • Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  • Ensure there are no devices with a yellow warning icon.
  • If available for your model, uninstall:
  • Thunderbolt Controller
  • USB4 Host Router
  • USB Root Hub (USB 3.x)

Restart the computer so Windows reinstalls them automatically.

Step 3: Perform a Clean NVIDIA Driver Installation

Since the system freezes only when the NVIDIA GPU is enabled:

  • Download the latest NVIDIA driver certified for your HP Fury.
  • During installation select:
  • Custom Installation
  • Perform a Clean Installation
  • Restart the computer.

Step 4: Update Intel Graphics Driver

  • Even though your system has an NVIDIA GPU, USB-C video output is often routed through the Intel integrated graphics.
  • Install the latest Intel Graphics driver provided by HP.
  • Restart the computer.

Step 5: Disable USB Selective Suspend

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select Change plan settings.
  • Click Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand USB settings.
  • Disable USB Selective Suspend.
  • Restart the computer.

Step 6: Disable Fast Startup

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on Fast Startup.
  • Save the changes and restart the computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
