I just replaced my HP 360 spectre pavillion with omnibook 5 - brilliant ! , but the USB-C G5 essential dock is no longer giving an output for my external screen (HDMI)  i have to plug HDMI directly into laptop -  -all other ports seem OK - Audio, camera etc

I have updated all firmware/software -  it worked fine with the old laptop-  is this a power issue -do i need to replace the dock ?

Hi  @TheWhiteboard,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your new HP Omnibook 5! I completely understand how  it can be when a dock that worked perfectly with your previous laptop suddenly doesn’t deliver video output. Let’s work through this together.

Could you please share the exact model number of your Omnibook 5?

In the meantime, here are few  troubleshooting steps you can try:

1.Check Display Output Settings

Windows may default to the laptop screen and not extend to HDMI.

Right-click desktop → Display settings

Ensure the external monitor is detected

Select Extend these displays or Duplicate

Confirm the correct monitor is set as active

2.Verify Dock Video Drivers

The G5 Essential Dock requires proper DisplayLink drivers for video output.

Download and install the latest HP USB-C G5 Essential Dock drivers from HP Support website : https://support.hp.com/ .

Restart your laptop after installation

3.Check USB-C Port Capability

Not all USB-C ports support video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode).

Confirm you are using the USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode

Try switching to another USB-C port if available

I hope this helps.
