Dear HP Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue with the USB Type-C port on my HP laptop and would appreciate your assistance.

Laptop Details:

  • Model: HP Pavilion x360 14-inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC
  • Processor: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1235U
  • Graphics: Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics

The laptop has a USB Type-C SuperSpeed port that supports USB Power Delivery and DisplayPort.

I have a USB-C monitor that provides both video output and laptop charging through a single USB-C cable. My office laptop works perfectly with this setup—it extends the display and charges the laptop simultaneously using the same cable.

However, with my HP Pavilion x360, the behavior is different:

  • When the laptop is powered off, it charges normally through the USB-C cable.
  • When the laptop is powered on, the external monitor is detected and the display extends correctly, but the laptop does not charge at the same time.

I have already updated the BIOS to the latest available version, but the issue still persists.

Could you please advise:

  1. Is this expected behavior for this model?
  2. Is there any BIOS setting, firmware update, or driver update that can resolve this issue?
  3. Is there any known workaround to enable simultaneous USB-C charging and DisplayPort output through the same USB-C connection?

I would appreciate your guidance on resolving this issue.

Thank you for your support.

Hi @JDPNilan

First, you need to specify the laptop's full model number. Personally, I suspect that the monitor's USB-C port isn't supplying enough watts to the laptop via the USB-C connection, which is why it isn't charging. The USB-C port needs to provide enough watts—just as the laptop does when using the AC power adapter.
