Hi,

I recently bought a HP laptop and wanted a 2nd monitor so I plugged the 2nd monitor in the USB-C port but it isn't working. I know it should work because I tested on another laptop. I went to device manager and under USB controllers is says "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)". Windows and drivers are up to date and I tried disabling and uninstalling device but not working. Frustrating... please help.

Not all USB-C ports are the same. What is your machine ? Please use the following way to find out:

Hi Banhien,

Thanks for your reply. The model is 14-dq2010ca, 2021 Model. Does the USB-C port on this machine not support a monitor?  And if so, is there a way to connect 2 monitors to this laptop?

Its specs

           https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c07048802

It ONLY has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate  port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

For more connectivity, please use

                         True Universal Docking Stations

Regards.
