My laptop has just recently quit displaying anything on other monitors via USB-C. I updated my laptop a few days before the issues and there had been no complications. My laptop is giving the docking stations power but is not detecting its screens.

I've switched docking stations, I've tested them both, I've done laptop updates and driver updates and hard resets, nothing seems to be working. Whenever I do a hard reset, I do get a CMOS Checksum invalid message. Overall I'm not sure what's wrong with my USB-C since it's out of the blue and had been working previously.

Hi @Icantusealetter,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which exact HP laptop model are you using?
  • When you connect the monitor directly via USB-C (without the docking station), does it detect anything at all?
  • Do you see any error messages in Windows Device Manager related to the USB controller or display adapter?

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

  • BIOS update/reset: Since you mentioned a CMOS checksum error, the BIOS may be corrupted or misconfigured. Try entering BIOS setup (usually by pressing Esc or F10 at startup) and load default settings. If possible, update the BIOS to the latest version from HP’s support website.
  • Check USB-C alternate mode: Not all USB-C ports support video output. If your laptop has multiple USB-C ports, test each one.
  • Test with direct connection: Connect a monitor directly with a USB-C to HDMI/DisplayPort cable, bypassing the docking station, to rule out compatibility issues.
  • Update graphics drivers manually: Even if you’ve updated drivers, try downloading the latest  graphics drivers directly from HP’s support page.

I hope this helps.

Hello! I'm using the Victus by HP Laptop 16-d0013dx laptop. The monitors connect via HDMI to the docking station and do not have a USB-C cord, so I cannot try them separately with just the laptop. However, when using the HDMI slot, it works. No, I do not see any error messages that I'm aware of.

I tried updating the BIOS, but the instructions I found didn't align with what I saw. With the instructions I saw, I was to go to the BIOS and select 'Check HP.com for BIOS Updates,' but that was not an option. I've done the graphics driver updates, and that has not worked. This USB-C port has worked in the past using a docking station, but then one random day it stopped working.

Thank you for your suggestions so far; however, most I have already tried, and they have not worked. 😞

Hi @Icantusealetter,

Thanks for your response.

Since you mentioned the HDMI port works fine directly, but the USB-C connection through the docking station does not, this could be related to firmware, drivers, or even the docking station itself.

Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check USB-C Functionality with Another Device
    • If possible, connect a simple USB-C device (like a flash drive or phone cable) directly to the laptop’s USB-C port.
    • This will confirm whether the port itself is functioning or if the issue is specific to the docking station.
  2. Update Docking Station Firmware
    • Many docking stations require firmware updates to stay compatible with newer BIOS or driver versions.
    • Visit the manufacturer’s support site for your docking station and check for updates.
  3. Reinstall HP System Drivers
    • Go to HP Support, enter your product number (16-d0013dx), and download the latest HP System Event Utility and Chipset drivers.
    • These drivers help manage USB-C and docking station communication.
  4. Reset Power and Connections
    • Shut down the laptop completely.
    • Disconnect the docking station and power adapter.
    • Hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
    • Reconnect only the docking station and see if the USB-C port responds.
  5. Check Device Manager
    • Right-click Start > Device Manager.
    • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers and System devices.
    • Look for any yellow warning icons or disabled devices related to USB-C or Thunderbolt.
    • If found, right-click and select Update driver or Enable device.

I hope this helps.
