OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wd000 (7B9S2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hey, i've tried updating BIOS, Graphic card, intern graphic card and tested, first time (before i updated) i tried i got the screen visible in my display option, just nothing on the screen(black). After i did all the updates it got removed from the display and now i i get a "no signal" on the screen. I've allowed the USB in bios to transfer High resolution through the USB-C with no luck. Any ideas what i can try next?

BIOS Settings (USB-C Video Output)

  • You mentioned already enabling USB-C for high-resolution output in BIOS, but double-check if there are any additional options that may impact video output, such as Thunderbolt settings or other power-saving options.

Check for Conflicting Software

  • Disable any software that might interfere with the external display, such as third-party display management tools or GPU tuning applications.

OMEN Gaming Hub Settings

  • Ensure that any display or performance settings within OMEN Gaming Hub are not affecting the external display output. Try resetting any display-related settings there.

If none of these steps work, there could be a hardware limitation with the laptop's USB-C port or an issue with the adapter itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @RaymondGL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've taken several important steps already, but let's explore a few more troubleshooting options to get your OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop's USB-C to DisplayPort connection working with your AOC Freesync 144Hz monitor.

Check Cable and Adapter Compatibility

  • Cable/Adapter Issue: Ensure that the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter/cable is active and supports 144Hz refresh rate at your monitor's resolution (e.g., 1080p or 1440p).
  • Cable Standard: Some cables/adapters may only support lower resolutions or refresh rates. Try using a certified DisplayPort 1.4 cable if possible.

Windows Display Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Display, and check if the monitor is detected at all.
  • If the screen remains black, try pressing Windows + P and cycling through the display modes (e.g., Duplicate, Extend, Second Screen Only) to see if that activates the monitor.

Roll Back Graphics Drivers

  • Sometimes newer drivers can cause issues. You could try rolling back to a previous version of your GPU drivers (both dedicated and integrated) to see if this restores functionality.
  • Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters, right-click on your GPU, and choose Roll Back Driver (if available).

Update Monitor Firmware

  • Some monitors have firmware that can be updated. Check the AOC website to see if there's a firmware update available for your model.

Check Advanced Display Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings, and make sure the refresh rate is set to 144Hz.
  • You may also want to manually set the display resolution to match your monitor's native resolution (e.g., 1080p or 1440p).

Disable Freesync (Temporarily)

  • Some laptops struggle to output a stable signal when Freesync is enabled, especially at higher refresh rates.
  • Disable Freesync in the AOC monitor settings and test the connection again. If this works, you can try re-enabling it after getting a signal.

USB-C Port Issue

  • Verify if the USB-C port on the laptop supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and is functioning properly. Not all USB-C ports are capable of video output, so check the specs for your specific port.
  • Try using the HDMI output as a workaround to ensure it's not a port-specific issue.

Test with Another Monitor or Device

  • Try connecting your laptop to another monitor via USB-C to DisplayPort (if possible) or use a different laptop to test your AOC monitor.
  • This will help identify whether the issue lies with the monitor, cable, or laptop.

What helped was buying a new cable, specifically one that supports 144Hz, thanks for the advice. Sadly i tried everything before buying this, since i thought it would work by just turning down the framerate.

Thank you.
