I purchased a Chinese made adapter to connect my laptop to a projector via HDMI or VGA

It worked and I got an output from the Thunderbolt to the projector via HDMI. From the beginning though it was a hit and miss situation. After plugging in the adapter, I'd get one beep and then immediately another beep which sounded like some disconnection. Sometimes it'd work flawlessly. I even connected it to my TV via HDMI and watched an entire movie without fault. The USB 3.0 port on the adapter works flawlessly.

 

I couldn't find any drivers for the same and I don't know what else to do. I've done the usual Windows + P and tried all the modes but to no avail.

 

The weird thing is that it worked at the outset and wasn't dead from day 1. The laptop charges normally from both the ports so I guess they aren't dead.

 

I understand that USB C to HDMI is a huge mess but still I'd like to know about any ideas on how to get this working.

Ordered a new adapter from Aliexpress. I can confirm that it is working wonderfully without any fuss.

Has USB-C to HDMI and VGA. Another model with RJ45 in lieu of VGA also available. Fantastic build quality.

HP does not recommend third-party hardware, Accessories or Software as it's not tested on HP product. 

You can purchase genuine HP product from shopping.hp.com
