HP Pavilion x360 Convertible Laptop PC 14-dh0516sa

I have an personal HP X360 Notebook and an Enterprise HP laptop from my workplace.

I was issued a Lenovo USB-C  Travel Hub by work, which supports all the ports functionally (USB 2, USB 3,  LAN, HDMI, VGA).

However over on the personal Notebook the HP X360 recognises the USB ports and LAN port. But try plugging an HDMI in and it doesn't recognise it.

I tried this on Windows 10 and the error was "last USB device connected to this PC was not recognised by Windows" and there was a yellow triangle "!" warning in Device Manager. I tried getting support from Lenovo and Displaylink but their suggestions didn't work. Never did I see an additional Display Adaptor

I loaded W11 today and again the travel hub will work with the USBs and the LAN - but the HDMI port doesn't work. This time however there are no errors in Device Manager.

Some googling and it would appear that not all USB-C ports are created equally and some will not support use to output video. Would this be the difference between my work and home laptops?

Not USB-C ports are the same. The specs of your machine is

             https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c06444618

Your Lenovo USB-C dock in NOT compatible with your machine. Your machine  ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter (some hubs may have builtin chip to support this)

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

For more connectivity, please use

                         True Universal Docking Stations

Regards.
