When I use USB-C to connect an HP external monitor in the office it works but it does not work when I connect a Dell monitor (the same via USB-C)

I have updated the drivers but it doesn't work

Hi @Efecto26,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering compatibility issues when using USB-C to connect your Dell monitor compared to your HP monitor. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check Compatibility:

  • Ensure that your Dell monitor supports video input via USB-C. Not all monitors are equipped with the necessary hardware to receive video signals through USB-C. Review the specifications of your Dell monitor to confirm compatibility.

Update Monitor Firmware:

  • Some monitors may require firmware updates to support USB-C video input properly. Check the Dell support website for firmware updates specific to your monitor model and follow the instructions to install them.

Verify Cable and Port:

  • Make sure you're using a high-quality USB-C cable capable of transmitting video signals. Try using a different USB-C cable to rule out any cable issues.
  • Check that the USB-C port on your laptop and the corresponding port on the Dell monitor are both functioning correctly.

Adjust Monitor Settings:

  • On the Dell monitor, access the on-screen display (OSD) menu and navigate to the input/source settings.
  • Ensure that the input/source is set to USB-C or DisplayPort (depending on the monitor model) to receive the video signal from your laptop.

Try Alternate Connections:

  • If your Dell monitor supports multiple input connections (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort), try connecting your laptop to the monitor using a different cable/connection method to see if video output is established.

Update Laptop Drivers:

  • Ensure that your laptop's USB-C drivers are up to date. Visit the manufacturer's website (e.g., Dell) and download/install the latest USB-C drivers for your laptop model.

Check Display Settings:

  • On your laptop, check the display settings to ensure that the external monitor is detected and configured correctly. Press Win + P (on Windows) or go to System Preferences > Displays (on macOS) to adjust display settings.

Test with Another Device:

  • If possible, try connecting another USB-C compatible device (e.g., another laptop) to the Dell monitor using the same USB-C cable to determine if the issue is specific to your laptop or the monitor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
