It will not allow me to connect another monitor using the USB type-c port, I have tried an adapter that works with my wife's computer and the one a bought neither cord will work, I have one monitor already connected using the HDMI port. How can I fix the USB type-c port so it will work for my other monitor.

What is your HP Laptop PC 15-dy2000 (2D115AV) machine ? All USB-C ports are not the same. Your machine sould be one of the following machines

For example : HP Laptop 15-dy2132wm
It ONLY has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to
- Charge your machine,
- Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter (some hubs may have builtin chip to support this)
If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use
- Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
- Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as
For more connectivity, please use
True Universal Docking Stations
