The three USB ports on the right side of my HP Envy laptop have all stopped working today.  No reason given why??  One is the traditional USB port, and the other 2 are the new USB ports.  When I moved my mouse dongle from the right side traditional USB port to the left side traditional USB port, it worked, so I know that the left side USB ports work.  One of the rights side newer USB Ports is where my power connector lives, so my laptop is not running on battery only.  Help!

Hi @golf388,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about the  USB port issue , don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Did the ports stop working all at once today, or did you notice issues gradually?
  • When you plug in a device on the right side, does it show any response (like charging, a light turning on, or a notification), or is it completely unresponsive?
  • Have there been any recent updates, new software installations, or accidental drops/impacts to the laptop?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try right away:

  • Restart the laptop: Sometimes a simple reboot resets the USB controllers.
  • Device Manager check:
    1. Press Windows + X → choose Device Manager.
    2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    3. Look for any yellow warning icons. If you see one, right-click → Uninstall device, then restart your laptop to reinstall drivers automatically.
  • Power reset: Shut down your laptop, unplug the charger, and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds. Then reconnect and power on. This clears residual electrical charge that can sometimes affect ports.
  • Test with multiple devices: Try plugging in a USB drive, mouse, or phone cable to confirm if it’s a port-wide issue or device-specific.

If the left-side ports are working fine, that suggests the USB controller is functional, but the right-side ports may have a hardware fault or loose connection.

Could you let me know if the right-side ports include USB-C as well as USB-A, and whether the charging port is still functioning normally? That detail will help me guide you further.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
