USB not recognized, trying to connect two monitors through a USB- C (Alogic 12 in 1 mini dock)

USB not recognized, trying to connect two extemal monitors through a USB- C (Alogic 12 in 1 mini dock) two HDMI cables from the monitors.  It says the drivers are installed and updated for the product but nothing is connecting.  Tried a cheaper usbc that didn't work, just bought a more expensive one that was recommended - still doesn't connect.

What is your PC 14-d4000 (4A958AV)  machine ? It could be one of the following machine (dozens of them):

It ONLY has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

• Charge your machine,
• Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

• Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
• Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

Hi, only just discovered that the USB C on this doesn't have the thunderbolt so will not connect the two HDMI cabled monitors that I have (only need for word docs etc, not gaming or high res video's) So disappointed!  I asked the question specifically when I purchased the HP and also the mini dock "it will all work, don't worry' 

Sounds like I need to return the laptop and buy another one?
