Hey, so I just bought this laptop off a local person and just now noticed that the brightness is stuck at around 25-30ish percent and I can’t get it any higher. I’ve tried a bunch of things from resetting the laptop, to reinstalling the integrated graphics driver, but nothing seems to work. I’ve also uninstalled the integrated graphics and restarted to force the pc to get clean drivers, but that also didn’t work. I used the hp support assistant, as well as getting the fresh drivers from intel themselves, to no avail. I’ve been going through HP’s support forums, but I can’t find any solid fixes that work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Using the settings in the computer itself (through the mobility center), I can change the brightness slider, but the brightness stays the same. The brightness slider popup that I’ve seen on other laptops doesn’t appear when pressing the keys, nor with adjusting the slider itself. I don’t think it’s an issue with the display itself, because the brightness slider just entirely doesn’t appear when pressing the brightness keys (even with fn+them), but every other key works fine (including the volume buttons and on-screen slider).

I have solved this issue, but I’m leaving it up to help anyone searching for this in the future. What I did was I went into device manager, went to the monitors section, and saw that the monitor was listed as a “PnP standard monitor.” I uninstalled it from that section and rebooted. When it was back, it was listed as “Generic PnP monitor” and the brightness controls worked again!
