Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have just purchased Dell U4919DW monitor to which I have connected my HP EliteBook 840 G5 laptop. I am using a display port cable via the HP 2013 Ultraslim docking.

The max resolution available to me is 3840x1080 which is far below what the monitor can support (it supports 5120x1440).

According to the Dell website (https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-us/sln314416/dell-u4919dw-system-requirements-and-supported-...) the Intel UHD 620 graphics chip allegedly supports this.

What am I doing wrong or not correctly understanding? 🙂

Please let me know if you need more info from me.

Thanks!

How do you connect them. My machine which is also an HP 840 G5 has

  • USB Type-C (Thunderbolt)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 port
  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 charging port
  • HDMI 1.4
  • RJ-45/Ethernet
  • Docking connector
  • Audio-out (headphone)/audio-in (microphone) combo jack
  • AC port

Only the USB Type-C (Thunderbolt) port supports higher resolution, the HDMI port only supports 3840 x 2160 @ 30Hz (my tests)

Intel UHD 620 resolution and cable to connect are two different things.

Regards.

Hi @Banhien, and thank you for your swift reply.

I first attempted to connect via USB-C (the USB-C-thunderbolt-connector on the side) but that only caused the screen to flicker on my laptop while nothing was displayed on the external monitor.

I then put the laptop in the HP 2013 SlimDock and connected the external monitor to the dock via a DisplayPort-cable.

By doing the latter (using the dock) I am able to get a stable picture, but with the capped resolution of 3840x1080.

Quick update here- my IT-department updated the BIOS/firmware/drivers/Windows version over the weekend and I am now able to get 5120x1440 over usb-c without problems. It was probably a driver issue. 😃
