HP Pavilion 15-eg2051cl

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone in the HP Community can help me with a strange issue I’ve been having with my HP Pavilion 15-egXXXX laptop running Windows 11. The screen starts flickering (like a quick flash or jitter) whenever I use certain resource-heavy applications, such as Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing or games like Cyberpunk 2077. It doesn’t happen all the time—just with these specific programs. When I’m doing lighter tasks like browsing the web with Chrome or working in Microsoft Word, everything is fine.

I’ve already checked the basics: my display drivers are up to date (I reinstalled them via HP Support Assistant), and I’ve ensured Windows 11 is fully updated as of March 19, 2025. I also tried adjusting the screen refresh rate in the display settings, but the flickering persists. It’s not a constant flicker—it’s more like random bursts, which makes me think it might be tied to the GPU or something else obscure.

Has anyone else run into this kind of selective flickering with their HP laptop? Could it be a hardware issue, like the integrated graphics struggling with certain apps, or maybe a power setting I’m missing? I’d really appreciate any troubleshooting tips or insights—thanks in advance!

Hi @Sinclair25,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are some steps and solutions you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Update Graphics Drivers

Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this by running Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

Windows Update:

  • Click on the Start Menu and select Settings.
  • Go to Update & Security and then Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Launch HP Support Assistant from the Start Menu or taskbar.
  • Go to Updates and messages and check for updates.
  • Install any available updates for your graphics driver.

Check Display Settings

Sometimes screen flickering can be resolved by adjusting your display settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Ensure the Refresh rate is set according to your display specifications.

Run Hardware Diagnostics

You can run HP's hardware diagnostics to check for any hardware-related issues:

  • Restart your laptop and immediately press F2 to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool.
  • Run the extensive test to check for any hardware malfunctions.

Using OMEN Command Center

If you have gaming applications, using OMEN Command Center can help monitor system vitals:

  • Open OMEN Command Center.
  • Check the System Vitals section for CPU and GPU temperatures. High temperatures can cause screen flickering. Ensure your laptop is not overheating.

Clean Your Laptop

Make sure your laptop's cooling system is not obstructed and the device is clean:

  • Turn off and unplug your laptop.
  • Use canned air to gently clean any dust from the cooling vents.
  • Ensure the laptop is used on a hard surface to maintain good airflow.

Adjust Power Settings

Sometimes modifying your power settings can reduce instances of screen flickering:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings.
  • Choose Advanced power settings and change the settings to balanced or high performance.

Let me know how it goes.
