Before reading, First check the video link below 👇
Issue Summary:
Caps Lock Blinking: 5 long, 3 short (sometimes 3 long, 2 short without battery).
Black Screen & Freezing: The laptop turns on, shows the HP logo, allows login, but within a minute, the screen goes black while the machine remains on (fans running, keyboard unresponsive).
Has been unusable for the past two months.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
1. Repair Shop Diagnosis:
At the repair shop, the laptop worked fine.
They used a USB drive to reinstall and update Windows 11. However, the issue returned after bringing it home.
2. BIOS Chip Testing:
Removed and safely stored the original BIOS chip.
Tested a second programmed BIOS chip, but the laptop wouldn’t turn on. Reinstalled the original chip, but the issue persisted.
3. GPU Power Testing:
There are 3 voltage types component near the Nvidia GPU, suspecting an overheating issue. Disconnected them by unsoldering it and the laptop still didn’t work, so the component was restored.
4. Thermal past, cleaning whole laptop including fan. Worked for 2 hours then same issue.
5. Sometimes when I hold the power button for 60 seconds or 20 second, then it turn on smoothly. I try to digonose with f11 , but still no solution. I felt like when I connect my charger this problem happens more than only with battery. But either way the problem is there.
6. Suppose I turn on my laptop, I move the display a little up and down , immediately black screen and no keyboard response. Though the machine is on. Or sometimes I move the laptop a little bit, immediately this problem happens. Still check any wire or cables from display to inside, but all looks good.
The problem started when main battery was fat. While I was using my laptop as usual, suddenly black screen, lag , freezing. So i opened back side and noticed battery is fat. So bought *A" grade battery with same model. So all the problems happening may be arises from fat battery
What are the steps should be taken now ?

@Shaon09, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop Black Screen & Freezing Issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Based on the details you’ve shared, it seems like the issue could be related to either a hardware connection, power delivery, or even a lingering effect from the swollen battery. Let’s go over a few things step by step:
Display Connection Issue (Physical Movement Triggering Black Screen)
- Since the screen goes black when you move the display or the laptop, this strongly suggests a loose or damaged display cable (LVDS/eDP cable) or a problem with the motherboard-to-display connection.
- Even if the cable looks fine externally, it might have internal wear or damage. If possible, try reseating or replacing the cable.
- If you have access to an external monitor, check if the issue persists when connected to it. If the external display works fine while your laptop screen goes black, the issue is likely with the display cable or panel.
Power-Related Issues (Battery & Charger Influence)
- Since the issue appears more often when plugged in, try running the laptop only on battery power for a while.
- Conversely, if the issue happens without the battery, test running the laptop with just the charger (battery removed). If it behaves differently, the battery might still be affecting power regulation.
- Check the DC jack and power connector inside the laptop—if there's any looseness or damage, it could cause intermittent power delivery issues.
BIOS and Firmware Check
- Since you've tested different BIOS chips, I’d recommend ensuring your BIOS is updated to the latest version (if possible) via HP’s official support site.
- Also, try resetting the BIOS to default settings:
- Turn off your laptop → Press & hold Windows + B, then power it on while holding these keys.
- If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions.
Component & GPU Behavior
- The presence of different voltage levels near the Nvidia GPU and the temporary success after cleaning and repasting suggests possible overheating or a faulty GPU connection.
- If you haven’t already, try disabling the dedicated GPU in BIOS (if your system allows it) or through Safe Mode in Device Manager. If the laptop runs fine on integrated graphics, this could point to a GPU-related issue.
Checking System Logs for Errors
- Since Windows was reinstalled, check if there are any logs related to hardware failures:
- Go to Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System and look for Critical or Error messages around the time of the crash.
Given the combination of power, display movement, and previous battery swelling, I strongly recommend:
- Testing with an external display to confirm if the issue is related to the screen.
- Checking the display cable (try reseating/replacing it).
- Running without battery and checking power jack stability.
- Disabling the dedicated GPU (if possible) to see if that stabilizes the system.
Keep me posted on your findings—I’d be happy to help further!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Tried all the steps including disabled GPU when it was turned on through Nvidia app, but still display suddenly gone and machine still on. Here give below update videos : please check and let me know .
If display cable issue, display will never come right ?
In a repair shop, he tried to open 3 voltage from dedicated GPU , so it can't pass any voltage from GPU . But still same problem. He then put it back same . So overall it still display suddenly black and machine is on.
New video - please see the video first
I feel like it could be because of windows 11 update. Laste time when I check update , I notice in check update it also updating firmware. It could be messed up . But I tried to use ch341a usb to see ic and all good and also press windows and b which recover multiple types my bios.
Now I am trying to setup windows again and will disable firmware from device managern, so it can't update.

Here is another updated video :
So finally was able start the setup after lots of restart and hold power button. Now my charger is unplugged. But I tried to plugged in charger when 10% and it was stuck in 20%. Not sure was it because of charger, cause percentage was still increased. After it stuck, just move the display and it goes black and machine still on. You can see everything in the video.
Note: when It worked properly till January 28th, it had a lagging issue. So I play game and as It gaming laptop, I always plugged in during game play. But when the program stuck or lagging but not black screen ., so I used to just unplugged the charger from port and all good. So that's why I assume could it be charger issue. While I was in the repair shop, they used my charger adapter and they told it's good. So I'm confuse 😅 now.

@Shaon09, Thanks for reaching out! I understand how frustrating this issue must be, and I appreciate the detailed troubleshooting you’ve done so far. Unfortunately, I can’t view the video, but based on your description, let’s go over a few things that might help narrow this down further.
Possible Causes & Next Steps:
Display Connection & Physical Movement Sensitivity:
Since the black screen issue happens when you move the display or laptop, this could indicate a loose display cable or a faulty hinge connection.
Even if the cables appear fine, I’d recommend reseating or replacing the LCD cable (eDP cable) to rule it out.
Power & Charging Issues:
You mentioned the issue happens more when the charger is plugged in.
Does using a different charger (with the same power rating) make any difference?
Check for power fluctuations—sometimes unstable voltage can cause display failures.
BIOS & Firmware Conflicts:
Since you suspect a firmware update issue, have you tried rolling back to a previous BIOS version?
If the issue started after a Windows update, you might want to disable automatic firmware updates in Windows Update settings and reinstall a stable BIOS version from HP’s official site.
A Few Questions to Dig Deeper:
When the screen goes black, does an external monitor still display output? (This can confirm if it’s a GPU or display issue.)
Does the Caps Lock key blink after the screen goes black, or does the system remain completely unresponsive?
If you boot into Safe Mode, does the issue still occur? (This can help check if a driver or OS-level issue is causing it.)
Let me know what you find, and we’ll troubleshoot further from there! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you so much for the reply. So here are some update :
I test my SSD c drive where windows installed. Found there are errors in SSD through properties. So I typed chkdsk C..... And next restart it took some time to repair it. After that , I was able to use my laptop for 3 hours. So I thought as my SSD health is 77%, does it crash or it always had an error which I did not test.
I tried this test in safe mode. During safe mode there was no issues no black screen issue. Even I move the display, nothing happens.
So I realized I should installed the windows version which I have my digital license as everything looks good now.
so I have completed new setup from windows 11 pro to Home. But the problem was in update section whole list of drivers and all resources showing to download and install. I was very aware of that . But I did not install. I tried to download "show and hide" app from Microsoft so I could hide"hp Inc firmware 15.20" which was listed in update section.
So Now the problem started again. I was surprised. Is it because lots of drivers in the updates section pending? But I didn't let them install or Download. I don't think show and hide app worked. Cause when I restart, firmware still showing in update section.
So I was trying to open in safe mode again, but this time during safe mode i can't log in windows because it shows set up pin code something like that.
My question if in safe mode it was ok , then What is the issue during normal startup?
Could SSD be the reason? Lot of people told me 77 % health is good. Cause people use even in 50 %. It doesn't matter.
