HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-k0022ns
Microsoft Windows 11

Good morning,
How can I use the camera on my HP Paviliion All-in-One-24-k0022ns PC when I use it as an external monitor for an HP laptop? When I schedule a meeting in Teams from my laptop, I don't get the option to select the camera on my computer and I can only use the one on my laptop.

Thanks a lot

Hi @Isidre,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be when the camera on your HP Pavilion All-in-One PC doesn’t show up as an option during Teams meetings while using the system as an external monitor. Here's why and what you can do:

Why the Camera Doesn't Work in External Monitor Mode:

When using an All-in-One PC as an external monitor, the system typically acts like a standard display (using HDMI or other connections), and features like the integrated camera, microphone, and USB ports on the monitor are not automatically accessible by the connected laptop. Video input (e.g., HDMI) only transfers the display signal; it does not carry camera, sound, or USB data.

Solutions to Use the Camera

To use the All-in-One camera with your laptop, you’ll need to set up the camera as a network-accessible device or connect the laptop directly to the camera. Here are your options:

1. Use Remote Desktop to Access the All-in-One’s Camera

  • Instead of using the Pavilion purely as a monitor, remote into the All-in-One PC from your laptop.
  • Steps:
    1. Enable Remote Desktop on the All-in-One PC:
      • Go to Settings > System > Remote Desktop and turn it ON.
    2. Connect to the All-in-One using Remote Desktop from the laptop.
      • Open Remote Desktop (type "Remote Desktop" in the search bar).
      • Enter the IP address or PC name of the All-in-One.
    3. Run Teams on the All-in-One instead of the laptop.
  • This allows you to access the camera on the All-in-One PC during the meeting.

2. Use a USB-Cable Solution (If Supported)

If the integrated camera on your All-in-One PC is connected to a USB bus (internal), you might be able to use a USB-A to USB-A data cable:

  1. Connect your All-in-One PC to the laptop via USB.
  2. On your laptop, check if the All-in-One’s camera is recognized in Device Manager > Cameras.
  3. If it appears, select it as the camera in Teams settings (Devices > Camera).

3. Use the All-in-One as the Meeting Host

  • Run Teams directly on the All-in-One PC instead of the laptop for meetings.
  • This ensures the camera, microphone, and other peripherals work seamlessly.

The best solutions are either:

  • Using Remote Desktop to control the All-in-One while hosting the meeting.
  • Running Teams directly on the All-in-One.

Unfortunately, HDMI alone cannot transmit camera data, so a direct hardware connection or software workaround is necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
