I have an external monitor connected to the Mini-DisplayPort receptacle on my Omen laptop. After I reboot the computer with the lid open, the desktop is extended across both the internal laptop display and my external monitor. If I then close the lid, the desktop shows only on the external monitor. This is the behavior I want. If, however, I reboot Windows with the laptop lid closed (and leave it closed), the desktop is once again extended across both the internal and external displays. The only way to get the desktop to display only on the external monitor is to open the lid enough that it's recognized to be open, then close it again.
How can I configure Windows or my laptop UEFI settings so if the laptop is powered on with the lid closed, it uses the external monitor -- and *ONLY* the external monitor?
Thanks ....

Do not extend the display, just mirror or duplicate it.
Note that running laptop with lid closed may overheat the laptop.

So, BeemerBiker, thank you.
I have to admit, I'm more than a little embarrassed that I didn't think of this solution on my own. I've been: building computers since 1988, a software engineer since 1990, a network admin since 1992, and a Windows user (in addition to VAX, BSD, and Linux) since Windows 3.1 was considered Totes Kewl.
Your simple, perfect, straightforward, solution never occurred to me. Thank you.
I bow to your intuitive understanding.
Humbly,
