Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

HP Pavillion cs1960nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

My name is Michael. I have a HP Pavillion cs1960nd notebook. It has the following connection possibilities: 1 USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 (for data-transfer only, till 5Gb/s); 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP charging in sleep mode); 1 HDMI 1.4. Furthermore, I have two video cards: a GeForce MX150 and an Intel UHD Graphics 620. I was wondering whether someone knows whether there is some sort of possibility to connect two external monitors? I would like to extend the monitors, not duplicate them. Both in terms of my connection possibilities and the fact that I have two video cards? I am not planning to use either monitor for gaming purposes or something, it's just for standard tasks and to run light programs. Currently, I already have a second monitor (an Acer VG240Y). It only has two HDMI ports and one VGA port. It would be nice if there is a possibility to extend to a third monitor by keeping my current second monitor, but I also don't mind buying two new different monitors (if that is the only solution to extend to three monitors)!

Thanks for the help in advance!

Regards,

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have only has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port, therefore option to use USB-C to HDMI or something won't work that leave you with only HDMI port.

Hi there Echo_Lake,

Thank you for your response.

I understand that it is not possible for me to get a second screen connected by using the USB-C port, since it's a data transfer only. However, I was wondering whether adapters exist for a USB-C port to HDMI or for a USB 3.1-port to HDMI which allow me to connect to a second monitor (since my first monitor already uses the only HDMI port that I have available).

Thanks for your help again and kind regards,

Michael.

Thank you for posting back.

To get the answer to this question, I would suggest you can check with docking station in order to set up multiple display.
Note: HP does not recommend to use Third party hardware as they are not tested by HP and may not be accurate. However, you could check the configuration at your own discretion.

Hi Echo_Lake,

Again, thanks for your response.

All right, I will try to search on that website to find possibilities in order to set up multiple monitors.

Kind regards,

Michael.

Hi,

For everyone experiencing the same difficulties, in my specific solution ordering this, relatively cheap, USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter fixed the issue. https://www.amazon.nl/gp/product/B08121Y311/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I now have 2 extended monitors connected to my laptop without any issues.

Kind regards,

Michael.
