I have the same issue as someone posted in 2018 under the same title with the same 17" laptop. I have vertical multicolored lines on my display. An external monitor works fine. Occasionally the display will work, but now rarely. The previous post went off to a private message after noting it was a hardware issue, so not sure what the solution was. Is it the display panel itself (replaceable), or the video chip (soldered to MB)?
The laptop works fine with an external display, but that is a different video driver path, correct? I was hoping it might be just the display. I removed and cleaned the ribbon connector on the motherboard, same issue. Also, tapping components/cables/display does not resolve, although occasionally the desktop image appears (randomly).
So since the system board is the likely culprit, and would be too costly to repair/replace, using the laptop with an external monitor will be the path I follow. Thank you for your time!
