I just finished backing up the “pictures, video and music” folders. I then ran a defrag on all the drives after ensuring all Windows Updates were installed. Once complete, I ran a Norton Antivirus scan on all drives. Everything was working fine; internet, office word/excel/PowerPoint. I just performed a computer restart and the screen is completely full of vertical lines of different colors and thicknesses. On startup, you hear all the normal bells and whistles but can not navigate. I tried to hook up an external monitor to the HDMI port with no success. The laptop screen flickers but I can’t choose the option to display to the monitor. What to do?

Looks like possible graphics chip failure.
Have you tried tapping the F4 key to switch to external monitor?
With a stroke of luck it may resolve itself with an overnight cool down period.
