HP 15-db1904ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a hp 15-db1904ng notebook new last month and yesterday a single thin, horizontal, line showed up across the screen. While I was trying to figure out the cause of it today the line suddenly vanished but now I am unable to change the screen brightness in any way. Not with the keys, nor if I go into the settings and try to change it from there. The slider moves but the brightness stays the same. The notebook also now takes quite a while to properly shut down. Is there any way that might fix this or do I have to send it in for repair?

@Yunael

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to change the screen brightness.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp106001-106500/sp106084.exe

AMD: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp107001-107500/sp107276.exe

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thank you for the solution, however the fact that I cannot change the brightness fixed itself at some point so I did not test your solutions, however now I have different troubles. The notbeook takes up to a minute to shut down and, when I play a video on any website the video itself will sometimes turn out in a bright green. It gets fixed when I play the video so it doesn't bother me as much as the notebook needing so long to shut down does.

Any solutions for that?

Follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.

Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.

Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.

Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.

On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘Powercfg.cpl’ in it.

Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.

From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.

Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.

From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.

Click on ‘Save changes’ button.

If the issue persists, follow the below steps.

Go to the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Control panel’ then hit the ‘Enter’ key.

From the top-right filter, choose ‘Large icons’ and navigate to the ‘Power Options’,

Click and open the ‘Power options’.

Select the power plan according to your requirement and click on ‘Change plan settings’.

Click on ‘Change advanced power settings’.

In the power options windows, click on the button ‘Restore plan defaults’.

Click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’ button.
