I've had a problem recently in that  my laptop screen has become either entirely into random vertical lines (not just covering a part of the screen) and get dark around the corners, or the screen as it should be but rapidly flashing dark and light (though not on and off completely). Which state it is in depends on the angle of the screen (though there isn't a position where it is always one or the other), or I can 'force' it into the second state by applying pressure to the bottom center of the screen frame (that is, where the logo is below the screen) or by lightly 'twisting' the screen - that is, pulling one upper corner while pushing the other. If it is stable in the second state for a while, sometimes the flashing will stop and the screen will work as normal, but this will only work for some time and then it goes back to the first state (the whole screen being lines).

From what I've seen online, it seems to me that the most likely culprit is that the lcd cable connecting the screen to the motherboard is loose or frayed. Does this seem right, and if so, how should I fix it? I am overseas at the moment, so unfortunately sending it in for warranty isn't an option.

Wanted to update this real quick because I solved half of the problem. Turns out the thing with the lines wasn't the cable, it was that the ground wire below the screen is kind of flimsy and got bent out of shape, so there would be the lines whenever it wasn't straight (explaining why pushing on it brought the screen up properly). I put some electrical tape there and now the lines are gone. However, screen is just permanently flashing, so evidently that was a separate problem. I also now notice that there is a dividing line about a quarter of the way to the right of the screen - not a physical line, but like a difference in what the two parts are doing. I'm not sure exactly what - here is what I have observed:

- The right quarter seems to be darker than the left three quarters, like it is flashing all the way off rather than just darker. I'm not sure this is why though, it goes too fast.

-When opening a completely white screen, the right three quarters looks completely normal, but flashing is still visible in the right quarter.

I went and updated the graphics drivers with no change. I'm strongly inclined to think this is a hardware problem. Any thoughts on what the cause could be?

Hoping to get a response from someone who is familiar a bit more with the hardware. My fix worked well for a week or two, but now it's back to the main issue. Now every time it turns into lines I pop it open and fiddle with the ground wire and I can get it to the flashing regular screen status. This is not a permanent solution even if I could work like that as it switches back and forth with any minor vibration. Has anyone seen a similar problem ever before, and what is the root cause? Is it possible to replace just the ground area or the display cable to resolve this problem, or am I resigned to replacing the whole screen?
