Hp 15.5

I just got my HP 15.6 laptop not even a week ago and after the first maybe second use the screen has become extremely dim almost black... only way I can see anything is by using a light pointed towards the screen to somewhat be able to view it. I have tried changing the brightness on it and all the tips I can find online but still no change. Also makes no difference if the charger is plugged in or not. Please please help, i am not very tech savvy and this is extremely  frustrating since i just purchased the laptop not even a week ago. Thank you!!

@Lindzb89 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the laptop display is very dim.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you tried with Ac adapter plugged in?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Go into Windows Control Panel>>Power Options>>Power Management, Select adjust plan brightness, Use the slider and increase until the end. Click save changes.

Or use Fn key + F10 Key to increase the brightness.

And, also refer to this video link: Click here Troubleshooting a Dim Display
