I recently purchased a Victus 15-fa1xxx (Intel i5 + Nvidia 3050) and from the start I have been working through a number of graphics/display issues, which I have mostly been able to solve. However, today I attempted to connect a monitor to the computer via HDMI, and the output would only be shown on the monitor momentarily before going dark. After the monitor goes dark, the laptop display would freeze and not respond to input for 30-60 sec, after which both displays would go black and then come back. This behavior would continue until the monitor was disconnected, which stabilized the laptop's behavior.
I had previously installed (and cleaned via DDU) the recommended versions of the Intel and Nvidia drivers through the HP software/drivers page while troubleshooting other issues seemingly caused by newer driver versions, so it does not seem like updating to drivers to versions newer than the recommended would help. The issue is made more nebulous by the fact that there are no errors/BSOD shown for this behavior. It is currently running Windows 11 23H2, BIOS version F.13.

Hi @spikeoa1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
It appears that your Victus 15-fa1xxx laptop is experiencing issues when connecting an HDMI monitor. The screen freezes or goes black upon connecting the monitor. Here are steps to troubleshoot this problem:
Check Cable and Connections: Ensure that the HDMI cable you're using is undamaged and properly connected to both the laptop and the monitor. Try using a different HDMI cable to rule out any cable issues.
Monitor Settings: Check the input settings on your monitor. Sometimes, monitors need to be manually set to receive input from the HDMI port. Use the monitor's controls to select the correct input source (HDMI) after connecting the cable.
Display Settings on Laptop: Adjust the display settings on your laptop. Right-click on the desktop, select "Display Settings" (or similar), and ensure that the external monitor is detected and configured correctly. You can choose to extend or duplicate the display, depending on your preference.
Try Different Ports: If your laptop has multiple HDMI ports, try connecting the cable to a different HDMI port to see if the issue persists. Additionally, try connecting the HDMI cable to another monitor or TV to check if the problem lies with the laptop or the monitor.
BIOS/UEFI Update: In some cases, a BIOS or UEFI update might address compatibility issues related to external displays. Click here
Check Power Settings: Sometimes, power settings can interfere with external display connections. Go to your laptop's power settings and ensure that the settings aren’t causing the screen to turn off when an external display is connected.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, it might indicate a hardware issue with either the laptop or the monitor. In that case, contacting phone support or a technical expert for further assistance might be necessary.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
