I just bought a Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa1057nl from the technical sheet it appears to be at 144hz (https://support.hp.com/it-it/document/ish_7704813-7728814-16) but windows 11 does not recognize these hz and limits it to 60 (but also to 40).
- I installed the latest drivers for both the intel and nvidia gpu
- I installed and reinstalled the monitor drivers (from windows since the monitor is not recognized except as AUO ProductCode = 64685) - I ran the test in ''hp hw diagnostic 2.7. 2.0''
- Video IO Test and it failed with this result:

Is the panel actually 144hz? Any suggestions?

Hi @XfoProf,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a common issue where Windows 11 isn't recognizing the full refresh rate of your display. Even though the technical specs list it as 144Hz, the system is limiting it to 60Hz or even 40Hz. Let's troubleshoot this step by step:
1. Verify Refresh Rate Settings in Windows
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings.
- Scroll down and click Advanced Display settings.
- Ensure that the Refresh Rate (Hz) dropdown shows 144Hz.
- If it's not available, proceed to the next steps.
- If it's not available, proceed to the next steps.
2. Check the NVIDIA Control Panel
- Right-click on the desktop and open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Under Display, click Change Resolution.
- Ensure the correct display is selected.
- Check the Refresh Rate and try setting it to 144Hz.
- If 144Hz is not available, try creating a custom resolution (explained below).
3. Create a Custom Resolution (NVIDIA)
- In the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Change Resolution.
- Click Customize > Create Custom Resolution.
- Set the refresh rate to 144Hz.
- Test and apply it.
4. Update or Reinstall Monitor Drivers
- Device Manager > Monitors.
- Right-click on AUOFCAD (or the generic display) > Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop; Windows will reinstall the drivers.
- Alternatively, use HP Support Assistant or visit the HP website to download the latest monitor driver.
5. Disable Panel Self-Refresh (For Intel GPU)
If your laptop uses Intel Hybrid Graphics, disabling Panel Self-Refresh might help:
- Open Intel Graphics Command Center.
- Go to Power.
- Toggle off Panel Self-Refresh.
6. BIOS and Firmware Update
Sometimes an outdated BIOS can cause display issues:
- Visit the HP Support Website and check for any available BIOS or Firmware updates.
- Update if necessary.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply:
1. As written in the post, Windows recognizes it as 60hz or 40hz, it does not see 144hz, not even with CRT creating a specific resolution.
2&3. In the nvidia panel I do not have access to a ''Change resolution'', strangely the option is missing.
In our case, strangely, 60hz is automatically set, even if I disable it, when I restart the PC it returns to 60hz.
4. I have already tried to uninstall the drivers and have them reinstalled in Windows but nothing has changed, I tried to search for drivers online but I have not found anything having little information
''ManufacturerId = 44806
ManufacturerCode = AUO
ProductCode = 64685''
5. I have disabled automatic update and energy saving, nothing has changed
6. the bios was already updated to the latest version, I tried to reinstall it, but nothing has changed.
In the bios I have no settings regarding the panel/hz.

@XfoProf, Thank you for your response.
Please follow these steps,
Verify Refresh Rate in Windows Settings
- Go to Settings > System > Display.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced Display Settings.
- Check the Refresh Rate. If it's set to 60Hz, try changing it to 120Hz or 144Hz (if available).
- If only 60Hz or 40Hz is shown, proceed to the next steps.
Check NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
- Right-click on the desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Navigate to Display > Change Resolution.
- Under Refresh Rate, see if 120Hz or 144Hz is available.
- If available, select it and apply changes.
Ensure Display is Connected to the NVIDIA GPU
Since the laptop has both Intel UHD Graphics and an NVIDIA RTX 4050, it may be running the display through the Intel GPU, which could limit the refresh rate.
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings.
- Under Global Settings, set Preferred graphics processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
- Restart the laptop.
Check EDID Information
From the HP Hardware Diagnostics test, the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) reports 120Hz instead of 144Hz. This means the panel might be misconfigured or using the wrong EDID profile.
- Download and use a tool like Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) to check and override the refresh rate.
- If 144Hz is missing, manually add it using CRU.
Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
- Go to HP Support and check for a BIOS update for the Victus 15-fa1057nl.
- Also, update the Intel and NVIDIA chipset drivers.
Perform a Clean Installation of NVIDIA Drivers
- Download the latest NVIDIA Game Ready Driver from the NVIDIA website.
- Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to remove all previous display drivers.
- Install the latest NVIDIA driver and restart the system.
Check Windows Graphics Settings
- Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Locate high-refresh rate apps (e.g., games) and set them to use High-Performance NVIDIA GPU.
Check for Windows Updates
- Install any pending Windows updates that might resolve GPU/monitor driver issues.
I hope this helps!
