Device specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7840HS 8-core @ 3.80GHZ

Integrated GPU: AMD Radeon 780M

Discrete GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Mobile (8GB)

RAM: 32GB DDR5 @ 5600 MT/S

OS: Windows 11 25H2

Problem:

Running on power adapter under regular, workstation and gaming loads, the device will randomly enter a sleep state showing no display and being unresponsive to any inputs for a brief period. This occurs on the internal display and external display (21:9 LG 1080p 60HZ monitor) and both the 230W and 200W OEM power adapters.  It also persists after the power adapter has been removed. I have tried reinstalling drivers for the CPU and both GPU units, updating the bios, updating Windows, etc. with no change in results. Using the NVIDIA performance overlay while running a mildly intensive game on the power adapter either shows no data or the GPU at 0.630-0.725V at any usage/temperature/wattage, then crashes.

Any support would be helpful!

Hi @GP1858,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Thanks for sharing the full specs and the troubleshooting you’ve already done, that helps narrow things down. On the Victus by HP with Ryzen 7840HS + RTX 4070, the behavior you describe points to a firmware‑level instability in graphics power management rather than a driver or OS issue.

Perform a hard reset

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect the AC adapter.

Remove any discs from the disc drive.

Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

With the AC adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.

Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.

Kindly Update BIOS using the following link

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Test GPU and system board health to rule out hardware faults.

Please refer to this link for assistance.

Check OMEN Gaming Hub performance profiles

Ensure you’re not locked into hybrid graphics mode, switching profiles can stabilize voltage behavior.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Unfortunately, that did not fix my issue, and now I am seeing a screen (still flashing) that says "Your device ran into a problem and cannot be repaired." I was able to boot back into Windows 11, but the issue persists while trying to load the lock screen.

Hi @GP1858,

Thank you for getting back.

Let's try a few more deeper fixes.

Perform BIOS recovery

  • Touch + Sight: Press the Windows + B keys together while holding the power button for about 2-3 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the keys.
  • If successful, the laptop may beep, and you will see a BIOS recovery screen.
  • Follow the prompts to recover or reset the BIOS.
  • You may also refer to this document.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics from USB.

If Windows won’t boot, create a USB diagnostics stick on another PC. Boot from it and test the GPU, memory, and system board. This will confirm if the fault is hardware.

Let me know how it goes.
