I have a Victus by HP Laptop 16-e0085cl laptop with an RTX3060 6GB dedicated ram.

The Laptop specs say it has
1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate (DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge)

Does this type C port require a USB-C 3.1 2nd Gen Cable???  Or what is the compatible usb version to use with it?
I want to use the USB-C port (that I believe interfaces directly with the gpu) to connect to my external MSI monitor G274Qpf, 2560x1440 (WQHD)

The monitor specs say it has

> 1x Display Port (1.4)
>1x USB Type C Port (DP Alt w/ PD charging 15W)
>2x HDMI™ (2.0b)

What would be the best option to get the highest refresh rate?

USB-C to USB-C  3.1 2nd Gen Cable didn't work well, IDK if I had a bad cable or the wrong cable.
HDMI to HDMI  < better than USB-C to USB-C

USB-C to  DP < my understanding this is the fastest/best performance but have not tried yet.

Thank you

@Penguin41

Its specs

         https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c08014983

It has  1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate (DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge) port.

1. Yes, you can connect it to an external USB-C monitor or using USB-C to DO monitor.

2. It is compatible with DP 1.4 port which supports

             https://www.delock.com/infothek/DisplayPort/displayport_e.html

3. Standard USB-C to USB-C is better BUT all USB-C ports are not the same therefore you have to know what it is. In your case, you only get DP 1.4.

Thank you for the quick reply.

RE: usb-c to usb-c ( yes in theory should be fastest) to clarify my monitor's usb-c is not compatible like you suggest.

Can you please advise which USB-C to DP cable I would need?

I assume I need the Display port end spec of 1.4 DP but does the USB-C version matter?
Or what would the specs for the cable be?

Please advise.

Thank you
