Hi @Mahabba,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The issue with your HP Envy x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-fe0000, where the audio sounds thin and the video playback appears to be in slow motion, can be frustrating. Since you've already tried updating drivers and following online suggestions without success, here are some more advanced troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem:
1. Check for Hardware Acceleration Issues
- Disable Hardware Acceleration in Your Browser:
- If you're primarily experiencing this issue on YouTube or similar platforms, try disabling hardware acceleration in your browser.
- For Google Chrome:
- Go to the menu (three dots in the upper-right corner) > Settings.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced.
- Under System, toggle off Use hardware acceleration when available.
- Restart Chrome and see if the problem persists.
- For Mozilla Firefox:
- Open the menu (three lines in the upper-right corner) > Settings.
- Scroll down to the Performance section.
- Uncheck Use recommended performance settings and then uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
- Restart Firefox and test the video playback again.
2. Check Video Playback Settings
- Change Video Playback Settings:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Video Playback and ensure that the video playback settings are set to optimize for performance.
- Adjust Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and go to Display settings.
- Ensure the Scale and layout and Resolution settings are set to the recommended values. Also, check that the refresh rate is set correctly in Advanced display settings.
3. Run Audio and Video Troubleshooters
- Use Built-in Troubleshooters:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Run both the Playing Audio and Video Playback troubleshooters to let Windows detect and fix any underlying issues.
4. Check for Background Processes
- Check Task Manager for High CPU/GPU Usage:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Look at the Processes tab and see if any background applications are consuming excessive CPU or GPU resources, which might cause video and audio issues.
- If you find a resource-hogging application, consider closing it to see if performance improves.
5. Adjust Power Settings
- Set Power Plan to High Performance:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select the High-performance plan. This can prevent your system from throttling the CPU or GPU, which could be causing the slow video playback and thin audio.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Mahabba,
Please find the remaining steps below.
6. Check Audio Enhancements
- Disable Audio Enhancements:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
- Go to the Playback tab, select your audio device, and click Properties.
- Under the Enhancements tab, check Disable all enhancements and see if this improves the audio quality.
7. Check for Conflicting Software
- Third-Party Audio or Video Software:
- If you have any third-party audio or video software installed (such as sound equalizers, video players, or codec packs), try disabling or uninstalling them to see if they’re causing the issue.
8. Update or Reinstall Graphics and Audio Drivers
- Reinstall Drivers:
- Even though you've updated the drivers, sometimes a clean reinstall can help.
- In Device Manager, right-click on your Graphics Adapter and Audio Device and select Uninstall device. Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers. You can also download and install the latest drivers directly from the HP or manufacturer’s website.
9. BIOS and Firmware Update
- Update BIOS:
- Check the HP Support website for any BIOS updates for your specific model. An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause performance issues with audio and video.
10. Test in a Clean Boot Environment
- Perform a Clean Boot:
- A clean boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This can help identify if a background program is causing the issue.
- Follow this guide to perform a clean boot:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
- In Task Manager, disable all startup items.
- Close Task Manager and click OK in the System Configuration window.
- Restart your computer and test if the issue persists.
11. Perform a System Restore
- Restore to an Earlier Point:
- If the issue started recently, you might be able to fix it by restoring your system to a previous state where everything was working fine.
- Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts.
12. Consider a Factory Reset
- Last Resort - Factory Reset:
- If all else fails, you might consider resetting your laptop to factory settings. This will erase all your data, so make sure to back up important files first.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Reset this PC.
Note:
The issue you're facing could be related to software conflicts, driver issues, or settings that need adjustment. Start by disabling hardware acceleration in your browser, running troubleshooters, and checking for high resource usage in Task Manager. If the problem persists, consider reinstalling drivers, updating the BIOS, or even performing a clean boot or system restore.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
